I’m a little more than halfway through my PTO. It’s been great!
As much as possible, I try to lean into my absolute favorite activity to do when I have some time off: To do… nothing.
No schedule. No alarms (mostly). Zero personal plans. 100% potato mdoe.
However, zero plans doesn’t mean zero activity. And it doesn’t mean zero structure either. (I still keep a notebook, logs, and checklists close by.)
Some days, I happily tag along with whatever others want to do.
Other days, I just follow whatever tiny spark shows up in the moment: grab a snack, take a walk, scribble in a notebook, fall down a random YouTube hole.
I figure those impulses aren’t random. They’re little signals from my head or heart saying: “This. This small, mundane, extra everyday, very ordinary thing — this is what you want right now. This is need right now.”
So I let it happen. To go with the flow. Wherever it takes me.
